Siam Organic becomes First Thai company to ring closing bell on NASDAQ

When 29-year-old Peetachai Dejkraisak rings the NASDAQ Closing Bell on Friday, August 26,2011, Siam Organic Co. Ltd. becomes the first ever Thai company in the history of the Kingdom of Thailand to ring the Closing Bell at one of the world’s largest stock exchanges.Bangkok-based Siam Organic was founded by 5 MBA students of Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University. The company is a provider of nutritious organic and natural food products, and is launching their flagship product “Jasberry”, a new variety of high-antioxidant rice that is cross bred from the world famous Thai jasmine rice and Thai black rice, in thailand and the US. The company received this privilege of closing the NASDAQ bell by virtue of them winning the Stu Clark Investment Competition 2011, organized be the Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba at Winnipeg, Canada. Siam Organic collaborated with the inventor of the rice, Dr. Apichart Vanavichit, Director, Rice Gene Discovery and Rice Research Center, Kasetsart University, to bring this product to market. the CAD 20,000 Stu Clark competition win was on the back of
having just lifted H.M. The King’s Trophy and USD 10,000 in prize money at this year’s MAI Bangkok Business Challenge – a global business plan competition hosted in Bangkok, Thailand.
