DITP urges Thai contractors in Middle East to heed “green building” concept

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) has encouraged Thai building contractors planning to conduct business in the Middle East to have a better understanding about the new concept of green building.
DITP Director-General Nuntawan Sakuntanak has disclosed a report from the International Trade Promotion Office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which suggests that the governments of Middle Eastern countries have begun to place more importance on the ecosystem. They have reportedly set up a particular organization to oversee and manage a project called “Green Building”.
Under the project, new regulations are enforced to ensure that new buildings use construction materials that are environmental-friendly as well as have an appropriate system to save water and electricity as part of an effort to tackle the energy crisis and global warming. Concrete results have been seen in the city of Masdar in Abu Dhabi, which has been designated as a model for energy-efficient and pollution-free cities.
Therefore, Ms. Nuntawan recommended all Thai building contractors who wish to take on projects in the Middle Eastern region to immediately familiarize themselves with the green building concept in order to abide by the new regulations.
