The 50th BGJF to host first-ever ASEAN Gems and Jewelry President’s Summit

Thailand is the region’s strongest country with the longest-established and strongest gems and jewelry industry both as manufacturing base and trade center, has taken the initiative to form an alliance between all gems and jewelry industry within the 10 ASEAN member countries, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei. This is to gain solidarity and forge friendship among the 10-nation’s gems and jewelry industry leadership in preparation for the AEC.

Initiated by Mr. Somchai Phornchindarak, the president of the TGJTA and the Gems Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand, the meeting of top leaders in the gems and jewelry industry of ASEAN presents several important opportunities.

“All ASEAN countries have their own gems and jewelry industry with different purposes and expertise,” stated Mr. Somchai. “Under the AEC Blueprint, when the region becomes a single manufacturing base and consumer block, ASEAN proposes huge opportunities for all gems and jewelry industries in every country.”]

“And if we all are united, as the purposes of the 1st ASEAN Gems and Jewelry President’s Summit hopes to serve,” he added,” not only will we will all gain, we all will also be greatly more resilient to competitors from outside the region.”

At the moment, the 1st ASEAN Gems and Jewelry President’s Summit are in the preparation stages. But during the summit meeting, a formal declaration of cooperation between all parties will be discussed and agreed. The summit is the first of its kind to be held in the gems and jewelry industry of ASEAN. It Is a strong initiative to push through the growth and future cooperation of the region’s gems and jewelry industries.
